Transport packaging TUK-123 for storage and transport of spent nuclear fuel from BN-350 reactors is designed for SNF transportation, arrangement and safe long-term storage in a purpose-built storage facility and execution of works on further treatment of spent nuclear fuel.

According to IAEA, Regulations for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Material, Safety Standards Series No.TS-R-1 it refers to type В (U).

TUK-123 consists of:

  • —  storage packaging UKKh-123.Sb00.
  • —  protective and damping casing (PDC) TUK-123.Sb01.

UKKh-123 during handling and storage at nuclear facilities refers to safety class 2 (qualifying designation 2H), in accordance with OPB 88/97 (PN AE G 01-011-97).

UKKh-123 is designed for temporary storage of spent nuclear fuel loaded in baskets, on the site of storage and transportation as a part of TUK-123.

PDC provides energy absorption of loads applied to UKKh in emergency situations due to the plasto-elastic deformation of PDC elements.

UKKh-123consists of:

  • — metal-concrete container UKKh-123.Sb01;
  • —  spacing grid UKKh-123.Sb02;
  • —  a set of spare parts, tools and equipment for UKKh-123.Sb.75;
  • — a set of assembly adjusting elements for UKKh-123.Sb.25.

Manufacturing of TUK-123 (UKKh-123) is carried out with technical support from research institutes of Moscow and St. Petersburg: Open Joint Stock Company Special Design Bureau of Machine Building (OAO KBSM), FSUE Central Research Institute of Structural Materials (CNII KM) Prometey, Federal State Unitary Enterprise 26th Central Research Institute of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation (CNII MO RF), Konstantinov Institute of Nuclear Physics, Russian Academy of Sciences, St.Petersburg.
